POPUP (People Upliftment Programme)

“Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work.” - Thomas A. Edison

We have been blessed with a building that offers POPUP the opportunity to significantly scale our service offering in the region and expand our impact. Furthermore, much of the infrastructure already exists, allowing expedient retrofitting for a quick turnaround into operations.

Raslouw Facilities Vision
The thatched building already includes an office, two classrooms, and a large hall with ample space for additional teaching areas. It will benefit from a separate entrance and autonomy from the other activities on the site.

We will present Life Skills, AET (adult education training), Computer and Admin and Call Centre training at the centre for those in dire need of hope for the future in this geographical area of our city.

If we had to develop such a facility from scratch, we would require a capital investment of R7 mil. The retrofit will require an investment of R2 mil and will afford POPUP’s full dedicated use of the building. A genuinely catalytic investment that will amplify impact through leveraged partnerships.

Target Groups: 18-35 years, under-privileged South Africans

Expected Outputs

We will present Life Skills, AET (adult education training), Computer and Admin and Call Centre training at the centre for those in dire need of hope for the future in this geographical area of our city.

After completing this project, there will be two computer classrooms, two additional classrooms, an office, bathrooms and a hall for certificate ceremonies and celebrations.

The centre will have its own entrance and be enclosed for the safety of our learners.

Expected Outcomes

Our expected outcome is to see a Whole City. As mentioned in the video, we believe that by creating a safe space for learners, that is accessible and in their geographical area, we can impact people in the NEETS funnel.

Once the roof is fixed, we can open our Advice Office to support the community with skills training advice. The short-term goal is to open the centre doors within the following year.

We believe that in the next three years, we can see learners move from the NEETS funnel into further studies, placement or starting their small enterprise.

Expected Impact

We believe the Raslouw Impact Infrastructure Revamp will unlock training for the community in need of hope for the future in this geographical area.

The impact of this centre on the community will speak of impacted lives, restored relationships, and people filled with hope for the future. The POPUP Life Skills Programme has remarkable success stories of learners who have been completely transformed from drug and alcohol abuse and are now undergoing training to craft a better future for themselves.

Imagine turning the downward spiral of poverty into an upward contribution to society. A truly catalytic investment that will amplify impact.
